Producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist Dub Gabriel is no stranger in the worlds of rock, dub, world and electronic music. With three full-length solo albums under his belt (including his most recent, Anarchy and Alchemy) and a fourth on its way, Dub Gabriel fully embraces the collaborative process having worked with an incredible spectrum of artists that include Michael Stipe, U Roy, Yo! Majesty, Bachir Attar & The Master Musicians of Jajouka, members of Bauhaus, Googol Bordello, Meat Beat Manifesto and P.I.L.

On the APC40

I just received my APC40 and I have not been able to get my hands off of it yet! Even writing this for Akai Pro was late due to the days I spent locked into what is now the centerpiece of my home studio and live set up. I have been an Ableton Live user since Live 2 and I have always been very outspoken about how much I love the software. Being a musician for over a decade before I started DJing, I always felt limited by two turntables and was continuously searching for a more “performance way” to perform my DJ sets. When Ableton launched its software it was a groundbreaking step in the right direction but until now there hasn’t been a controller that could seamlessly fit what was happening on the screen.

So, when I saw the press release for the APC40, I knew immediately that it would make for a whole new standard in live electronic music performance. It’s a radical new beast - with new and endless performance tricks unlike anything I could ever do before. My only complaint is, what took you guys so long? Seriously though, it was well worth the wait and from now on it will be an essential part of all my gigs where I am no longer just spinning tracks but composing live remixes and performances. For the first time I can truly play and freestyle off my laptop - thank you!

“Because everybody and their mom can essentially be a DJ and/or producer these days, it’s hard to discern what's worth paying attention to in the electronica world. That said, Brooklyn-ite Dub Gabriel is well worth your time - much like Thievery Corporation, he uses a lot of "world" influence, but comes off more dark and disturbed”
-Village Voice
