Akai EIE and EIE Pro - Audio Setup in Reaper

This 'how to' guide will walk you through setting up all EIE and EIE Pro inputs and outputs for use in Reaper on a Mac and PC.

EIE & EIE Pro Audio Setup - Windows

  1. Connect the EIE or EIE Pro to a USB Port and Power On.
     
  2. If you have EIE, audio drivers in your Mac or PC will automatically install. If you have an EIE Pro, install the drivers for the device from the included installation disk, or from a download link on the product's page online.
     
  3. Start Reaper and select Options, Preferences

  4. In Reaper Preferences, with the EIE connected, select Device in the Audio submenu in the left hand column. Mirror the settings found in the following image.

  5. In Reaper Preferences, with the EIE connected, select ASIO Configuration..., select the wrench icon in the ASIO4ALL control panel, and select the + button, next to the EIE audio interface. Make sure the device, and device inputs and outputs are active.

  6. In Reaper Preferences, with the EIE Pro connected, select Device in the Audio submenu in the left hand column. Mirror the settings found in the following image.

  7. In Reaper Preferences, with the EIE Pro connected, select ASIO Configuration... Make sure the control panel states, Status: CONNECTED

  8. Now, navigate to Reaper's Mixer, and select the I/O button.

  9. In Outputs for Master Track change Track Channels to 4

  10. With an EIE select 1: EIE 1/EIE 2

  11. With an EIE, the following will populate in the Outputs for Master Track

  12. With an EIE Pro select 1: Out 1/Out 2

  13. With an EIE Pro, the following will populate in the Outputs for Master Track

  14. Select the dropdown arrow found next to your selected outputs. Select Mulitchannel source, 4 channels, 1-4.

  15. With an EIE, the following will populate in the Outputs for Master Track

  16. With an EIE Pro, the following will populate in the Outputs for Master Track

  17. Select TrackInsert new track

  18. In the newly created track, select the button labeled, I/O

  19. In the Routing for track 1, the Parent channels should read 1-4.

  20. In the track found in the recording grid, select the dropdown window for input. With an EIE, the track label will be EIE 1. With an EIE Pro, the label will read Out 1

  21. With an EIE, in the dropdown window that appears, select Input: 4 channel, EIE 1...EIE 4 [4 chan]

  22. With an EIE Pro, in the dropdown window that appears, select Input: 4 channel, In 1...In 4 [4 chan]

  23. Now you're Reaper Project is set up to record all 4 input channels from the EIE or EIE Pro on 1 track. However, in Reaper, from individual audio tracks, you can select Input: Stereo combinations, or -



    - or select Input: Mono sources.

EIE & EIE Pro Audio Setup - Mac

  1. Connect the EIE or EIE Pro to a USB Port and Power On.
     
  2. If you have EIE, audio drivers in your Mac or PC will automatically install. If you have an EIE Pro, install the drivers for the device from the included installation disk, or from a download link on the product's page online.
     
  3. Open Mac's Spotlight, show by a magnifying glass icon in the upper right hand corner of your monitor's screen. Type audio MIDI. Select Audio MIDI Setup from the dropdown list

  4. Select Window, and Show Audio Window

  5. Option select the EIE or EIE Pro, and select Use this device for sound input. Again, option select the EIE or EIE Pro,  and select Use this device for sound output.

  6. Start Reaper and select OptionsPreferences

  7. In Reaper Preferences, with the EIE or EIE Pro connected, select Device in the Audio submenu in the left hand column. Then select the EIE or EIE Pro as an Audio Device.

  8. Now, navigate to Reaper's Mixer, and select the I/O button.
     
  9. On an EIE In Outputs for Master Track change Track Channels to 4, and select Audio Master Outputs, 1: Out 1/Out 2

  10. On an EIE Pro In Outputs for Master Track change Track Channels to 4, and select Audio Master Outputs, 1: Front Left/Front Right

  11. Select the dropdown arrow found next to your selected outputs. Select Mulitchannel source, 4 channels, 1-4.

  12. Select TrackInsert new track

  14. In the track found in the recording grid, select the dropdown window for input. With an EIE, the track label will be IN 1. With an EIE Pro, the label will read Front Left. in the dropdown window that appears, select Input: 4 channel, IN 1...IN 4 [4 chan]

  15. Now you're Reaper Project is set up to record all 4 input channels from the EIE or EIE Pro on 1 track. However, in Reaper, from individual audio tracks, you can select Input: Stereo combinations, or select Input: Mono sources for more routing options!
