Akai EIE and EIE Pro - Setup with Presonus Studio One

EIE (16-bit Model, Red Face) Hardware Setup
  1. First, let's connect the Akai EIE to the computer via USB connection and ensure that the power supply is connected as well.
     
  2. Download and install the ASIO4ALL drivers.  You can get them by clicking here.
     
  3. For the purposes of this guide, ensure that the Headphone Select switch is set to ALL and the MONITOR knob is turned to OUT.
     
  4. Now power on the EIE.
     

 

EIE - PreSonus Studio One Setup

 

  1. Open up PreSonus Studio One, select Create a new Song and choose Empty Song.

  2. Select Studio One > Options...

  3. In the window that appears choose the Audio Setup tab and set the Audio Device to ASIO4ALL v2 and then select Control Panel.

  4. The window that opens is the ASIO Configuration. Select the wrench icon eie presonus step6  in the bottom right hand corner of the ASIO4ALL control panel, and select the + button, next to the EIE audio interface. Make sure the device, and device inputs and outputs are active. The power icon will be lit a blue color when active.

  5. Click on Track > Add Tracks.

  6. In the window that appears choose the following and then press OK.
     - Type: Audio
     - Input: Input L
     - Output: Main

  7. Next click on Input L and select Audio I/O Setup.

  8. Next in the window that opens select the Inputs tab and click Add (Stereo) once and Add (Mono) twice. Make sure to move the 2 mono inputs created to EIE 3 and EIE 4 and the Left and Right Stereo Input created to EIE 3 and EIE 4. Refer to the image below. This will add two mono inputs and a stereo input, allowing for 4 mono inputs and 2 stereo inputs with your EIE. Click Apply and then OK.

  9. Select the Outputs tab click Add (Stereo) once and Add (Mono) 4 times. Make sure to move the 4 Mono Outputs created to EIE 1-4 and and the Left and Right Stereo Output created to EIE 3 and EIE 4. Refer to the image below. This will add 4 mono outputs and a stereo output, allowing for 4 mono outputs and 2 stereo outputs with your EIE. Click Apply and then OK.

  10. Next click on Input and choose the correct input that you are using on your EIE.

  11. Make sure you select the Record Enable recordbutton and Monitor speakerbutton  buttons on the track you've created.

  12. Click the Record Button akai eie pro 9 in the transport section located near the bottom of Studio One. Now you are ready to record through your EIE interface!

EIE Pro (24-bit Model, Silver Face) Hardware Setup
  1. First, let's connect the Akai EIE Pro to the computer via USB connection and ensure that the power supply is connected as well.
     
  2. Download and install the latest drivers for the EIE Pro.  You can get them by clicking here, and going to the Docs & Downloads section.

  3. For the purposes of this guide, ensure that the Headphone Selectswitch is set to ALL and the MONITOR knob is turned to OUT. Now power on the EIE.
     
  4. Next connect your audio device (Microphone, Guitar, etc) and then set the LEVEL switch to the appropriate setting (MIC/LINE or GUITAR).

 

EIE Pro - Presonus Studio One Setup
  1. Open up PreSonus Studio One, select Create a new Song and choose Empty Song.

  2. Select Studio One > Options...

  3. In the window that appears choose the Audio Setup tab and set the Audio Device to Akai EIE Pro and then select Control Panel.

  4. The window that opens up will show the EIE Pro Device Information. Check and adjust the Audio Latency Settings in the EIE Control Panel if an echo, lag, or distortion is experienced in the audio response, then choose Exit and then OK.

  5. Click on Track > Add Tracks.

  6. In the window that appears choose the following
     - Type: Audio
     - Input: Input L
     - Output: Main

  7. Next click on Input L and select Audio I/O Setup.

  9. Select the Outputs tab click Add (Stereo) once and Add (Mono) 4 times. Make sure to move the 4 Mono Outputs created to Out 1-4 and and the Left and Right Stereo Output created to Out 3 and Out 4. Refer to the image below. This will add 4 mono outputs and a stereo output, allowing for 4 mono outputs and 2 stereo outputs with your EIE Pro. Click Apply and then OK.

  10. Next click on Input and choose the correct input that you are using on your EIE Pro.

  12. Click the Record Button akai eie pro 9 in the transport section located near the bottom of Studio One. Now you are ready to record through your EIE Pro interface!
