iMPC App 101: Transferring iMPC content to and from your computer

iMPCiconTransferring iMPC content to and from your computer is straight foward and takes only a few minutes. In this article we show you how to save your exported iMPC sequences, projects, and songs to your computer. We also show you how to transfer samples from your computer to the iMPC App.

How to transfer your exported iMPC project to your computer

  1. Open the iMPC App.

  2. Select the Sequence you wish to export from the Sequences window.
     
  3. Touch Export, and select what you would like to export.

    • If you would like to export the track you created as a mixed audio file choose Export .wav to iTunes.
       
    • If you would like export your sequence and program data to continue a project in the desktop version of MPC software, choose Export to MPC Desktop.

  4. Once the export has completed successfully, connect your iPad to your computer via USB.

  5. On your computer open the iTunes software. If you do not have iTunes please visit www.itunes.com
     
  6. With iTunes open and, your iPad connected select your iPad from the left menu (iTunes 8, 9, or 10); or top right for iTunes 11 users.

  7. Select  the Apps tab from the iPad menu.

  8. Scroll down to the File Sharing section, and find iMPC in the list of Apps.

  9. To the right you will see iMPC Documents with your exported projects, sequences, and tracks.

  10. Transferring your exported files to the computer is easy. Simply drag and drop files to a desired folder, or choose the Save to… option.

 

How to Add/Delete Samples from your computer to the iMPC App

  1. Connect your iPad to your computer via USB connection cable.
     
  2. On your computer open iTunes. If you do not have iTunes please visit www.itunes.com
     
  3. With iTunes open and your iPad connected select your iPad from the left Devices menu (iTunes 8, 9, or 10); or top right for iTunes 11 users.

  4. Select  the Apps tab from the iPad menu.

  5. Scroll down to the File Sharing section, and find iMPC in the list of Apps.

  6. To the right you should now see iMPC Documents, here you can add/delete any sample from your collection to the iMPC App. All samples must be in .wav format.
     
  7. Click Add.. or drag and drop your .wav samples into the iMPC Documents window. 
     
  8. Next we need to add these samples to your pads in the iMPC App. Tap the edit, or pencil icon next to your current program.

  9. Select Sound Library > My Sounds > iTunes File Transfer.

  10. Simply drag and drop the sample to the desired pad.

Importing your iMPC project into the MPC desktop software

The MPC desktop software for Windows and Mac is included with the Akai Pro MPC Renaissance and MPC Studio hardware products.  These products are available from your favorite music equipment retailer. The software MPC desktop software is not available separately from the MPC Renaissance and MPC Studio hardware.

 

  1. Export your iMPC App Sequnce data. See how to transfer above
     
  2. With your MPC hardware connected. Open the MPC desktop software.

  3. Click PROJ. under the File Browser section of the software. Then choose the location where you saved your ecported project.

  4. To load project double click the .xpj file.

  5. Thats it! Now you can continue to produce your track. 

    Note: All 4 iMPC tracks and programs are combined into one in the exported MPC1000 format project.  When you load the exported project on your MPC hardware or in the MPC desktop software (included with the MPC Renaissance and Studio), you'll find that the 4 programs created within the iMPC appare now spread across banks A, B, C, D.
