Akai MPC 500/2500/5000 Velocity Curve Explained

The Velocity Curve on the MPC 500/2500/500 moves from Logarithmic to Exponential.
(A through D as shown in the Reference Manual)
 

Logarithmic

When the Velocity Curve setting of A is chosen, the velocity curve is more Logarithmic. 
This allows for players with a lighter touch to play louder volumes without hitting the pad too heavily.

Exponential

When the Velocity Curve setting of D is chosen, the velocity curve is more Exponential. 
This allows for players with a heavier touch to play the pads harder without an overly loud volume.

The MPC 500/2500/5000 allows for the user to adjust this setting from Logarithmic to Exponential (A to D) depending upon what setting works best for you.  To adjust the setting, follow the steps below:

Adjusting the Velocity Curve

MPC500

* The pad sensitivity and Velocity Curve can be adjusted for each pad individually.  Here is how:

  1. Press the MODE button and then PAD 8 (OTHER).  The Other page will be displayed on the MPC500.
     
  2. In the top Parameter field, select Velocity Curve.  You can then adjust the velocity curve from A-B-C-D according to the information provided above.
     

MPC2500

* The pad sensitivity and Velocity Curve can be adjusted for each pad individually.  Here is how:

  1. Press the MODE button and then PAD 10 (OTHER)
     
  2. Press the F4 (PAD) button.
     
  3. Select the pad you wish to adjust by hitting your chosen pad.  The selected Pad Number will be displayed in the upper left corner of the screen.  The number of the current pad sensitivity and the current Velocity Curve will be displayed.
     
  4. Select the Velocity Curve field and adjust the Velocity Curve while hitting the pad.  You can adjust the Velocity Curve according to the information provided above.

MPC5000

* The pad sensitivity and Velocity Curve can be adjusted for each pad individually.  Here is how:

  1. Press the MODE button and then PAD 9 (OTHER).  The Other page willbe displayed on the MPC5000.
     
  2. Select the PAD page by pressing the F3 (PAD) button.
     
  3. Select the pad you wish to adjust by hitting your chosen pad.  The selected pad number willbe displayed in the 'Pad' field.  The number of the current pad sensitivity and the current Velocity curve willbe displayed in the 'Pad Sensitivity' field and 'Velocity Curve' field.
     
  4. Select the 'Velocity curve' field and adjust the Velocity Curve while hitting the pad.  You can adjust the Velocity Curve according to the information provided above.
