MPC Element
Is the MPC Element an audio interface?

No. The MPC Element is not an audio interface. MPC Essentials, and MPC Software are compatible with any ASIO audio interface, like an Akai Professional MPC Renaissance, or Akai Professional EIE.

What operating systems is the MPC Element compatible with?

Akai Pro's MPC Element driver software is compatible with Mac OS 10.7 and higher, and Windows 7 and higher. However, the MPC Element also includes a low power mode. When the MPC Element is in low power mode the device uses class-compliant MIDI drivers pre-installed in all modern Microsoft and Apple supported, Windows, Mac, and iOS operating systems. Simply put, if the MPC Element in low power mode it is a plug-and-play MIDI device.

Are the MPC Element's pads velocity sensitive?

Yes. Each of the 16 drum pads is velocity sensitive.

Does the MPC Element include MPC Shift functions?

No. Shift functions are available on MPC Renaissance and MPC Studio.

Can the MPC Element be used with the MPC Renaissance and MPC Studio's software?

Yes. The MPC Element can be used in place of the MPC Renaissance or MPC Studio with an unlocked copy of MPC Software.

Can the MPC Element be used as a MIDI controller in other DAW’s, without MPC Essentials, or MPC Software?

Yes. The MPC Element includes a low power mode, which allows users to trigger samples, or use transport controls in virtually any digital audio software that includes a MIDI mapping mode. Additionally, when in low power mode, the Element's pad arrangement will work perfectly with the iMPC application for iOS.

Can the MPC Element unlock the MPC Software?

No. MPC Element will unlock MPC Essentials only, but can be used with an MPC Renaissance or Studio unlocked copy of the MPC Software.

Is MPC Essentials software 32 and 64-bit compatible?

Yes. MPC Essentials Standalone, VST and AU plugin formats are compatible in 32 and 64-bit environments. MPC Essentials' RTAS plugin is only 32-bit compatible.

What Plugin formats are supported for loading in host DAW's, and for hosting in MPC Essentials?

MPC Essentials is available in VST, AU, and RTAS plugin formats. VST and AU plugins can be loaded in the Essentials software.

How do I unlock MPC Essentials Software

MPC Essentials can be unlocked by connecting an MPC Renaissance, MPC Studio, or MPC Element. A onetime connection of any of these devices will permanently unlock the software.

How many pad banks are available in MPC Essentials?

8 Pad Banks, 16 sample pads per bank.

How many samples can I load into an MPC Essentials Program?

4 samples can be layered per sample pad. A total of 512 samples can be loaded in each program.

How many instances of the MPC Essentials plugin can be run in a DAW?

As many instances as your host and computer resources will allow!

What is the difference between MPC Software and MPC Essentials?

All features are the same with the exception of the following:

  • MPC Essentials features 1 track, no track mix, no track sends; and can be run in multiple instances in a plugin host.
  • MPC Software (the full version) includes 128 tracks, a track mixer, track sends; and can be loaded just once in a plugin host.
Can MPC Essentials software run without an MPC Renaissance, MPC Studio or MPC Element hardware connected?

Yes! MPC Essentials can be run without any hardware connected. The only connection required with your hardware is when the software is unlocked. Otherwise, running, composing, saving and exporting will all function the same as when you have a controller attached.

Can MPC Renaissance and Studio users obtain MPC Essentials?

Yes. MPC Essentials is available, free of charge, to all MPC Renaissance, and MPC Studio owners. Visit www.akaiprompc.com/essentials to download.

MPC Element owners also receive the following three expansion packs with their MPC Essentials installation:

Can the MPC Renaissance and Studio hardware be used with MPC Essentials software?

Yes. The MPC Renaissance and Studio will work with MPC Essentials just as they work with the MPC Software, with the following exceptions: MPC Essentials features 1 track, no track mix, no track sends, and can be run in multiple instances in a plugin host.

Will MPC Essentials load MPC Software Projects that are produced with the MPC Renaissance and Studio?

Yes. When loading an MPC Software Project in Essentials that contains more than one track a prompt will appear asking which track you want to load.

Will MPC Software load MPC Essentials projects, too?

Yes. Both MPC Software, and MPC Essentials will save and load .xpj master project files.

Can I run the MPC Essentials at the same time as MPC Software?

No. MPC Software and MPC Essentials cannot be run at the same time. However, multiple instances of the MPC Essentials plugin can be run in a host, once for each track.
