This article walks through all the basics steps of how to install and open your Expansion plugin in the MPC software. To find out how to install and setup the Expansion Pack plugins, check out this article and then jump right in!
The MPC Expansion Pack is a group of virtual instrument plugins only for use with the MPC software.
Each Expansion plugin utilizes a specific type of preset file to make a sound. The preset (SVX) file calls upon samples that are installed by the Expansion disks. These samples are a specific type of WAV formatted sound files. The actual WAV files cannot be directly accessed or utilized in the MPC software and can only be used with the corresponding Expansion plugin.
To obtain the Expansion pack, log into your Akaipro account by clicking here. Register the MPC controller and you will find download links for the Expansion pack as it shown in the image below:
NOTE: Please do not use the disks that are bundled with your MPC controller, we recommend installing the software from the link above.
To install the Expansion Pack, follow the steps suggested below. We will demonstrate the process using the 809. You can replicate the same steps with each of the other expansion packs in your account.
Once this process is complete, you are now ready to access the expansion virtual instruments into MPC software.
Note for Windows users only: If you have difficulty locating a plugin in your VST folder within the MPC software, be sure the MPC software program is reading plugins from the correct location where your plugin is installed. To do this:
Select MPC > Preferences...
or use the keyboard shortcut - [Command + comma]
Select Edit > Preferences...
or use the keyboard shortcut - [Control + comma]
The Expansions cannot be accessed through the browser. The WAV files used for the MPC Expansions are formatted to work only with the Expansion, so you’ll need to open that Expansion. Below are steps to accessing these Plugins/Expansions. Next to the pad bank under the Track box, you can select which program is going to be the source of the selected track. For more information on Program Types, see p.55 of the MPC manual under the help menu.
Now you’ll be able to play, record and manipulate sounds from your plugins/expansions. To add another plugin/expansion, simply select a new track and repeat the 5 steps above.
