The MPK mini mkII includes many great software titles, including a version of Reason 10: Reason 10 Lite. While it is a streamlined version of Reason 10, its small footprint makes a big mark in the music production space. It is a fully functional DAW that allows for powerful MIDI and audio recording with the built-in instruments and audio FX processing. This guide will walk you through the process of downloading and installing Reason 10 Lite.
In order to retrieve the Promotional Offer for Reason 10 Lite, log in to your Akaipro.com account. If you have not done so or need a refresher on how to, refer to this guide. Click the link (Redeem Now) in the MPK's registration entry to be taken to the Propellerhead website. As you click that link, make note of the two authorization codes directly above it.
These two codes (separated by a semi-colon) will be entered at the Propellerhead website in order to access and download Reason Lite. We'll come back to this later. Click the Get Started button and you will be taken to a new page. If you do not already have a Propellerhead account, create one here now.
Create a unique username. If your choice is already taken, a message will display so. Otherwise, continue creating the account by entering your email, full name, and creating a unique password. Please note, when creating a password, you will not be asked to confirm it by reentry so make sure you type it exactly as you intend it to be. It will need to be entered exactly as created when logging into your Propellerhead account upon launching Reason 10 Lite.
After creating your Propellerhead account, you will be taken to the Product Registration page. Select the Akai Pro product you purchased; In this case, the MPK Mini mkII. Next, refer to the Authorization codes we touched upon earlier in your Akai Pro account. There are two codes, separated by a semi-colon.
The first code is your License Number. The second code is your Registration Code. Copy and paste these codes into their respective fields.
Once entered successfully, you will have access to the download links for both PC and Mac versions of Reason 10 Lite. Choose the appropriate version of the software for the operating system you are using.
Retrieve the installer in your Downloads folder. Extract the contents and run the installer file. If you are on a Mac, move the Reason 10 Lite folder to your Applications folder. Launch Reason 10 Lite. You will be prompted to enter your Propellerhead login credentials.
Use the same credentials you used when you created your account on the Propellerhead website. At this time, the software may prompt you to update your rack extensions. Once that process is completed, Reason will begin to scan your plugins folder. This will make all compatible plugins on your computer available for you to use in Reason 10 Lite.
You will be prompted to select an audio output device, audio input device, and MIDI controller. If you have an audio interface, select it as your output and/or input device. Otherwise, you can select your computer's built in audio device. You can then add your MIDI controller device. Return to this menu any time to edit the hardware you are using.
Reason 10 Lite comes with a demo project. When prompted, load this song. It will give you a great idea of what the software can do and brief higlight of the various modules and components.
Now that you have installed Reason 10 Lite, you might want some tips and ideas to get going with your own music creation. The following videos from Propellerhead will demonstrate some ways you can use Reason 10 Lite to create music.
