The Akai Pro MPX16 makes a great stand-alone sample recorder and player. The MPX16 can also be used to control the legendary MPC software. There is some basic MIDI mapping that you need to perform in order to properly control your pads. The MPX16 will control all 16 of the pads in the MPC software. This guide will get your pads to correspond numerically to the software.
In order to assign MIDI message numbers to the pads, first you need to cycle to the FILTER/MIDI setting with the PAD EDIT button.
Rotating Knob D will change which note number is sent by each pad, the numbers are displayed here on your screen.
The picture below shows which midi note values need to be set for each pad. Strike the pad you want to set, then change the number value with Knob D. Each of the 16 pads need to be set individually with these different values.
Once you change all of the note numbers according to the picture above you need to save your kit settings. You must have an SD card inserted in order to save your mapping for future productions.
To save your settings:
Press the value knob twice to confirm your selection.
Now, any time you want to control your Akai Pro MPC software all you need to do is select the kit you just mapped. We suggest making these changes to Kit i01 as this is the default kit when powered on.
