serato logoSome users have reported that audio stops or cuts out unexpectedly when using Serato with DVS or a controller with motorized platters like the Numark NS7 series, Akai AMX, Denon DJ DS1, Rane SL2, etc.

What causes hardware disconnects and audio dropouts in Serato DJ when using DVS or a controller with motorized platters?

A bug was identified in Serato DJ 1.7.8 which caused hardware disconnects and audio dropouts when using DVS or a controller with motorized platters. This happens when the software is processing a large amount data and the audio stream gets corrupted within the Serato audio engine, preventing audio from exiting the engine and reaching your audio hardware.

Who is affected?

This bug has been identified when using the following combination:

  • Serato DJ 1.7.8
  • DVS OR a DJ controller with motorized platters from any manufacturer

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms can include any of the following:

  • Loud "pop", then no audio
  • Audio stops completely
  • The software on the computer screen may look like it is playing back, but there is no audio output from hardware
  • LED meters on your DJ controller are stuck
  • Rebooting the software temporarily resolves the symptom
  • Hardware disconnects from Serato DJ

Symptoms do NOT include

  • Crackling
  • Distortion
  • Intermittent audio dropouts that cut in and out

***NOTE: Hardware disconnects and audio dropouts can be caused by many different factors. If you're already on Serato DJ 1.8 or are NOT using DVS or a controller with motorized platters, please see our article on troubleshooting USB audio: Troubleshooting USB Audio Artifacts or Latency***

How can I fix this?

The good news is that Serato has identified this problem and completely resolved it in Serato DJ 1.8. Just visit the Serato website to update your software.
